Opportunity to Comment – The purpose of an opportunity to comment is to inform property owners and affected local governments and elected/public officials regarding the project, and allow them an opportunity to submit comments and questions as ongoing public outreach during the project development process.

Open Houses, Public Meetings and Hearings – Open houses, public meetings and hearings bring diverse groups of stakeholders together for a specific purpose. These events are held to engage a wide audience in information sharing and discussion. They can be used to increase awareness of an issue or proposal, and can be a starting point for, or an ongoing means of engaging, further public involvement. Many times on environmental projects they are required by state and federal regulations as a part of the project development process.

Notice Affording an Opportunity for Public Hearing (NAOPH) – notice that provides the opportunity to provide a request of a public hearing.

Other Public Involvement Events

  • Citizens Advisory Group – a group of local citizens gathered to provide guidance and input to a project or study.
  • Working group meetings - a group appointed to study and report on a question and make recommendations based on its findings.
  • Noise Workshops – a separate type of meeting that is held when it is determined that a proposed project impacts noise receivers, and feasible and reasonable abatement measures have been identified. This type of meeting is held specifically to allow property owners adjacent to proposed abatement measures to provide input on such measures.
  • Project Workshops - a meeting at which a group of people engage in intensive discussion and activity on a particular subject or project.

 

For each of the above types of events, NLA staff is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Logistical coordination for venues and services

Office Management

  • Provides staffing at client office
  • Provides administration support
  • Coordinates and/or manages preparations for project meetings and publishes minutes
  • Supports technical staff by performing a variety of project-related coordination

  • Prepares and submits expense reports on behalf of office staff
